Who is Elliott Phillip Niblack?

Mental Health & Recovery Peer Specialist (MHPS|RSPS)
Empathetic Communication Systems Specialist (ECSS)
Imperfect Human

Elliott Phillip Niblack is CEO of Reality by Design Peer Consulting and Chief Equity Education Officer and Director of Peer Services at The D. Wood Foundation, a non-profit organization promoting mental health advocacy and suicide awareness in minority communities. Elliott has lived experience navigating recovery with diagnoses of Bipolar type II, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyper Activity Disorder, and a history of opioid misuse. He applies the wisdom he’s gained as a Certified Mental Health and Recovery Peer Specialist (MHPS|RSPS) and Empathetic Communication Systems Specialist (ECSS). Elliott established Reality by Design Peer Consulting to fulfill his life mission of creating spaces where people feel safe being their open and honest selves.

Before stepping into the professional mental health arena, Elliott’s second home was the classroom, nurturing students from Early Childhood special education through High School. His career as teacher, school administrator, and Social Emotional Learning Support Provider made Elliott’s transition into youth and young adult peer support as natural as breathing. He leads a dedicated team in The D. Wood Foundation’s Near Age Peer Support program which aims to embed certified peer support services in Historically Black Colleges & Universities and traditional colleges. The nationally recognized program has been awarded grants by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission’s Innovative Healing Centered Projects.

Elliott finds inspiration in the mantra, “the best leaders are even better servants.” His achievements as a program developer, grant and published curriculum writer, and diversity, equity and inclusion consultant inform his presence as a leader. He sits on the board of directors of Via Hope, the Austin, TX based and internationally recognized peer workforce development provider and certification entity. As member of the SAMHSA sponsored Texas Empowerment Initiative Peer Leadership Advisory Group, Elliott collaborates with peer leaders across the state to establish accreditation standards for consumer operated service providers. Closer to home, he provides individual peer support sessions and facilitates weekly mental health support groups for the entire Black Community along with a Black men focused group, Brothers For Care.

In addition to his certifications Elliott holds a B.A. in Elementary Education from Chestnut Hill College, located in his childhood home of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He engages audiences with his passion for behavioral health advocacy through public speaking. Some engagements include speaker at the Hope & Healing Celebration held at the Texas Capital, facilitator for mental health provider Integral Care’s online Together We Will Heal forum, host of the podcast Teachers Lounging, and co-host of the Central Texas African American Family Support Conference.
